🎉 The Early Access game is here!
Thank you to everyone who dug through the demo, sent bug reports and told us what was wrong. Today Find The Needle leaves the demo behind. The factory goes five stages deep, the pile is full of metal, and the 24th needle finally opens something.
Here is everything that is new.
📜 Five stages, twenty orders
The demo had seven orders. The game now has twenty, in five stages. Each stage ends with a big customer, and signing their order opens the next stage: new machines, new products and a bigger digger.
Stage 1: Bales and panels. Ends with The Dairy.
Stage 2: Bricks, rods and gears. Ends with The Garden Centre.
Stage 3: Pulp, paper and assembly. Ends with The Paper Merchant.
Stage 4: Sugar and bioplastic. Ends with The Builders' Merchant.
Stage 5: Fibre, carbon and the ultimate digger. Ends with The Engineering Works.
Signing an order hands you everything it opens, with a proper reveal and confetti.
A big order waits until your cabinet holds enough needles, so the hunt and the factory pull on each other.
Big orders are so big that the lorry brings a trailer.
One pile lasts the whole game, all the way to the ending.
The 24 needles give bonuses that reach every machine, including three new ones: Big Depot, Deep Well and Fired Up.
🔩 There is metal in the hay
Horseshoes, copper elbows and plenty of other junk are buried in the pile, in over twenty kinds of iron and copper scrap.
Scrap rides your belts, can be sorted, and sells.
Let it ride into a hay machine and it jams. The yard will tell you which one.
The scanner has a scrap cannon now, aimed from its drawer.
The Smelter melts scrap into iron and copper ingots, which still glow as they ride your belts.
Generators burn scrap instead of jamming on it.
🏭 New machines
Panel Press: squeezes four bales into one Straw Panel.
Smelter: scrap in, ingots out.
Fabricator: makes parts out of ingots and bricks.
Assembler: puts parts together into bigger parts, and packs pet hay cartons.
Sugar Cooker: cooks hay bales and water into sacks of hay sugar.
Bioplastic Reactor: joins pulp and sugar into Bioplastic Sheets.
Fibre Spinner: melts bioplastic into White Fibre.
Carbon Kiln: bakes White Fibre black.
Biogas Digester: turns Wrapped Bales into power.
Depot: a store for your parts, with its own inventory screen. The Depot Drone flies what the order needs straight to the lorry.
Yard Fan: catches whatever is flying past and blows it onwards.
Jump Pad and Hay Landing Pad: throw yourself across the yard and land somewhere soft.
Scanner Mk III.
The Gas Plant now burns Fuel Discs.
New things to make and sell: Straw Panels, Reinforced Panels, Hay Rods, Gear Sets, Wire Spools, Motors, Paper Rolls, Packed Cartons, Sugar Sacks, Bioplastic Sheets, White Fibre, Carbon Booms and Composite Plates.
🏗️ Two new diggers
Hay Excavator: mark out a dig zone and its auger chews into the pile, one wad at a time onto your belt.
Skyline Crane: the ultimate digger. Set its zone, or take the controls and drive it yourself.
🚁 Drones and arms do more
Robotic arms and drones pick up every kind of item a belt can carry: scrap, panels, ingots, parts, and even tools and buckets if you tick the box.
Drone Mk II and Mk III carry 3 and 6 loads at once, for both the Hay Drone and the Depot Drone.
Drones fly through belts, pipes, poles and the shed instead of getting stuck on them.
🔨 Build bigger, build higher
Blueprints: lay out a setup on the Blueprint Designer (three sizes), save it, and put copies down anywhere. They go up piece by piece, connect themselves, and come down again in one go.
Dismantle Mode: the Needle Hammer shows the refund before you swing, and can mark up to 50 buildings at once.
Overclocking: run machines from 1% to 100%. Put needles in a Needle Socket to push past 100%.
Splitters: the Split Ratio card sends 10 to 90% one way, splitter routes switch whole groups on and off, and splitters and joiners can now hang in the air.
Belts: underground belts, belt poles that work at any height, belt hangers, a belt meter, and a compact 2 m Hay Lift.
Water: underground pipes, pipe pumps, valves, the Water Cross, and pipes through platforms.
Power: run cables by hand from a pole, wall outlets, a power graph, SHOW POWER LINE, and a FIRST, NORMAL or LAST priority for every machine.
Building pieces: catwalks, ladders, ramps, pillars, steel beams, low, half, glass and sloped walls, glass floors and roofs, belt holes and roller doors.
Hold a piece in place with H and nudge it with the arrow keys.
💰 Money works differently
Buyers: sell too much of one product and its price drops. Spread out and the money follows.
Today's prices on the chalkboard by the selling stand, with charts.
Tuning cards: sixteen endless upgrades for your machines and power.
Most buildings now cost parts as well as money.
You can move the selling stand.
🎨 Make the yard yours
The Customizer: paint your machines, belts, pipes, floors, walls and roofs, and paint lines and hazard stripes.
Signs you can write on.
Lights: street lights, ceiling lights, flood lights and candles. A Light Sensor turns them on at dusk.
Day and night: the sun goes down, the moon comes up and fireflies drift over the fields.
😎 Bubba has a body now
Look down and he is there. And he can finally say something.
Emote wheel on Y: thumbs up, point, rock on, a cup of tea, spitting, and a couple the hay would rather not talk about.
Photo mode on P.
Falling hurts now. Jump off something tall and the scoreboard will read HAY 1, BUBBA 0.
Outfits: four to pick from, plus your own colours for clothes, skin and hair.
The jetpack is sold over the Supply Co counter.
Flashlight on L, also from the Supply Co.
Vac hose on H: everything the vac sucks up goes wherever you point it.
The Forcetron What can that be?
A handful of hay grows click by click, and footsteps sound different on every floor.
Stand on the scale when the bag goes up. You'll see.
✨ A better looking yard
New models for the Hay Silo, Hay Generator, Hay Lift, Hay Pulper, Borehole Pump, Gas Plant and Paper Machine.
New effects and sounds for the machines you already know.
Every machine panel is redone, with the machine working live at the top.
The Dispatch Station replaces the old cork board.
A music panel, and tavern nights.
🎮 More ways to play
Six pile sizes, from SMALL (Easy) all the way to MOUNT HAYVEREST (Impossible).
Sandbox: everything unlocked, building is free, and F1 opens the sandbox tools. Sandbox runs stay off the leaderboards.
60 Steam achievements.
Leaderboards with a run sheet for every game: a graph and a timeline of how the run went.
A Help page with every tutorial card and tip.
Finish the last order and a Bubba Statue unlocks in every run after.
🎬 And an ending
Find all 24 needles. We won't say more than that :D
ℹ️ Good to know
The full game keeps its own saves, so demo saves do not carry over. Your new yard starts fresh.
🚀 What comes next
This is the start, not the finish. We expect the full game to be much bigger than it is today, and it will have multiplayer. Over the next 6 to 12 months, expect constant updates: new machines, new stages and everything you ask us for.
Tell us what you want next on Discord and in the Steam discussions. We read all of it.
Thank you for playing. Bring a shovel.
See you in the pile! 🌾
